September 8, 2006 To The Ends of The Earth…
Verse for the week:
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. John 15:5

Quote for the week:
"A great many people do not pray because they do not feel any sense of need. The sign that the Holy Spirit is in us is that we realize that we are empty, not that we are full. We have a sense of absolute need. We come across people who try us, circumstances that are difficult, conditions that are perplexing, and all these things awaken a dumb sense of need, which is a sign that the Holy Spirit is there. If we are ever free from the sense of need, it is not because the Holy Spirit has satisfied us, but because we have been satisfied with as much as we have. ‘A man's reach should exceed his grasp.’ A sense of need is one of the greatest benedictions because it keeps our life rightly related to Jesus Christ." - Oswald Chambers

People Group of the week:

Apostolic Missions Committee Member to pray for this week:
Tom Hoffman, Vice-Chairman (Roanoke, IL)

Apostolic Elder to pray for this week:
Ed Schwartz (Bluffton, IN) and YOUR OWN!

Apostolic Missionaries to pray for this week:
Magdalena, MX - please pray that God would continue to place a hedge of protection around the campus, workers, and children.

(PS. I'm going to start asking the missionaries on the field to give me requests. I think it would be great if we were specifically praying for what they specifically need! We'll see how it goes. Thanks for your patience!)

Other News:
I am often convicted by John 15:5 because, although I acknowledge in my head that I can do nothing without Christ, sometimes my actions say otherwise. And while self-sufficiency may be a noble American virtue, I'm afraid that sometimes I let it drift into my life as a servant of Jesus Christ. We are not self-sufficient; we are Christ-dependent!! May we each take some time this week to analyze whether our prayer lives reflect the glorious truth of John 15:5...I know this exercise will be very good for me. As a visiting brother recently preached in Bluffton, "the first work of Christian growth, Christian ministry, and Christian fruit is to 'abide in the Vine'."

I appreciate each of you!
